Norferra Fluorspar

Norferra Fluorspar was a Dwarf born in the high kingdom of Skypeak, raised among a clan of deep miners who carved steadily into the mountain’s oldest veins. She was physically gifted even by dwarven standards, and her temperament was one of seriousness, pragmatism, and quick judgment. In early adulthood she rose to become a crew leader, trusted with dangerous depths and the lives of others despite her young age. Though Norferra succeeded in the work, she held little reverence for the secrets of stone. Her true fascinations lay beyond the mountain, fixed on the wider world and the hidden forces that shaped it.

Against custom, Norferra left Skypeak and undertook a solitary, quasi-religious pilgrimage through the Crowncrests and into Commona. She crossed the cold Isilet Ranges into the Forest of Stone Tooth, where she intended to seek the old bastion of Khundrukar. She found that the fallen home of Durgeddin the Black was occupied by a cult called the Fold, who were attempting to use its great forge to create weapons equivalent to the Epochal Artifacts. Though their efforts in this endeavor had failed, The Fold offered answers about the truth of the world. Norferra found them fascinating, and accepted their imitation terms.

She volunteered for an experimental arcane process, and became the first subject to survive the full integration without loss of mind or body. Over many years, Norferra was marked with layered Magic Tattoos. A C-shaped sigil around her eye shielded her from charm and psychic intrusion; a shrouded pattern along her left arm blocked divination and Telepathy; mountains inked across her chest hardened her flesh; a a river across her abdomen granted fluid, unhindered movement; flames traced her back and ribs, capable of erupting outward in controlled firestorms; and dwarven runes at her hips and the back of her neck reinforced mental readiness and clarity under strain. These markings made her resilient, elusive, and dangerous, but they were not the most significant.

Two further types of tattoos defined her true value to the Fold. Her body was inscribed dozens of times with small V-shaped marks, each one linking her mind directly to various leaders in the Fold. Through these marks, she could communicate across the Prime Material, acting as a living conduit for orders, knowledge, and coordination. As the only individual to endure this network of bindings, Norferra was elevated to high rank and given the title of Voice, charged with projecting the will and intelligence of the V’s throughout the organization.

Voice's second important tattoo of knotwork alongside her right arm; this allowed her to project cutting force, but held a secret far greater than simple magic. Inspired by the impossible Dwarf-Door of Khundrukar, the Fold had recreated a similar project below the Murkmire Marshlands in an ancient Deepways cavern long-used to smuggle their wealth. There, they built an arcane treasure room, and sealed it with a Dwarf-Door of similar make to Durgeddin's. Generational wealth was moved below and protected by the Undermire Dwarf-Door, and Voice had the Dwarf-Door Tattoo Key inscribed on her right arm.

The V’s of the Fold soon concluded that though Voice was well-protected, her tattoos were insufficient to ensure her survival outside controlled conditions. They arranged for the Emblem Torchwarden to learn of her association with the cult, correctly anticipating the response of the Court of the Torch. Unable to execute her without proof and unable to extract information through magic or coercion, the Council of Commonlight consigned her to Bleak End, a newly established prison on Aone Island; there, she would remain safe for as long as necessary.

Voice was recorded as Prisoner 13, and sentenced to a life of imprisonment. Bleak End would be later installed with anti-magic cells which limited her communication to brief daily windows, but even this restriction proved surmountable. Isolated, unassailable, and presumed neutralized by her captors, Norferra Fluorspar continued to serve as the Voice of the Fold, ensuring its operations remained coordinated across the continent while she endured confinement at the far edge of the world.
