Ilis Terrescel (translated literally as "Divine Flame Noble Peacock" in Scycaen, though name-meanings were more symbolic in that language) was the sixth Imperator of the Scycaen Imperium and representative of the Terrescel family. As a child in Scil-Qallis, he had no interest in ruling, preferring to study arts and mathematics. When the title passed to him at the age of forty, Ilis only accepted it semi-willingly. While still an Angelborn like many of his forebears, he did not have the strength to wield Scyseti, his family's strongest claim to the Imperium.
Ilis was still considered the divine ruler of Scycae, but he struggled under the weight of the Imperatorship, and his family's lineage weighed on him heavily. Thought to be a pliable and weak-willed leader, his tenure at the head of the Imperium had been filled with trepidation. Though an alliance with Commona that had lasted for six generations, threats of raiders from the Crowncrest Mountains and pirates from the Siren's Isles had rocked the stability of his Imperium. Despite increasing occurrences of attacks, Ilis preferred to govern as he always had, and was not often seen in his court or war room.
As life for the Mortalkind under his purview grew increasingly hostile, especially around Sycae-Scyceti, many within his domain questioned his leadership and competence.
