In Curse Of Strahd, the vampire-worshipping sect of barbarians built another effigy to Strahd, larger than the Gulthias Tree and shaped in his image. Imbued with the power of a Gemstone of Life Growth stolen from the Wizard of Wines, this effigy was to be turned into a Tree Blight designed to enact vengeance on the vineyard, and to terrorize the settlements of Barovia as a whole.
Pack caught wind of this plan when ridding the winery's occupiers. Alongside Davian Martikov, they traveled to retrieve the Stone from the hill-folk, and came upon the scene at the end of the ritual. Ghalwin Forrester reached his hand into the effigy to remove the stone, but was too late to stop Wintersplinter's birth, and the blight began thrashing The Pack with powerful branches and grasping limbs. Using a Plant Slayer that had been embedded in the nearby Gulthias Tree, Ghalwin eventually felled the Wintersplinter, and the adventurers killed the remaining druids who created it.
After the Riots Of The Blazing Sun, Izek Strazni fled to Yester Hill, though not with any particular intention. Though he did not speak Druidic, the hill-folk took him in; his fearsome powers in combat and ability to speak Common were useful to the tribe, but in particular, the druids were fascinated with his Cursed arm. Believing it to be a gift from Giants long past, they helped Izek understand its magic, and in return, he offered protection to the hunting tribes, forging a bond with scout leader Helwa.
Eventually, Izek learned of a Giant skull owned by Baba Lysaga, and left for the swamps of Berez with the tribe's blessing.
