In Search For The Silver Dragon, Szabina encountered Mormeros Fayan, Ajuni Elajoral, Tobias Villie Broadnose Cogsmith, and Geronimo fleeing from the Roc of Mount Ghakis. Experienced in warding off the roc, she blasted a horn and rescued the party. Seeing they were exhausted and not understanding how they had come to Barovia, she allowed them to stay in her cabin, providing food and shelter as they healed, as well as basic knowledge about the valley. She requested they leave when they had healed, and did not bid them farewell.
An Unseelie Archfey that had long been trapped in the lands of the Zarovich Valley and its surrounding Balinok Mountains, The Huntress was a member of the Ladies Three. The sister of the The Seeker and The Weaver, the "Lady of the Mountain" was thought to have control over the valley's wildlife, though her magical abilities in the Prime Material were miniscule compared to their splendor in the Vivid Realms. The details of her wayshadowing was unknown, even to herself, but her transport to the valley was likely facilitated by the Azure Paragon.
The Lady of the Mountain was worshipped by the local Mortalkind of Yester Hill and Mount Ghakis, and delighted in this adoration. This cult built the Mountain Fane in her honor above the hill's cairns and burial mounds, adorned with Bears and mountain Goats. This binding led the mountain-folk, druids, and barbarians to worship her even when the religion of the Morninglord outgrew the Ladies' popularity in the townships of the valley.
Her likeness would appear in dreamlike visions to the locals, and she would reward those friendly to her: for instance, alongside her sisters, she gave a Gemstone of Life Growth to the Martikov family after a great offering. In exchange for totems and demonstrations of strength, the Huntress gave her followers primal courage and an understanding of the wild. They believed the Ladies controlled the world's destiny, and The Huntress was thought to have domain over the present, using impossible swiftness and strength to keep the world itself from turning inward.
After the Wedding That Never Was, Strahd von Zarovich became a Darklord, and turned the valley into his domain of Barovia. Though they had been transported to the Umbral Realms, the Ladies positioned themselves to remain neutral, as they always had. However, many followers of the Huntress were killed by Strahd's armies in a battle lead by Kavan and Jaghr of the Longtooth, and the Lady of the Mountain was left without worshippers. Arrogant and reckless, she attacked Strahd, and the blood spilt from that battle fed the Gulthias Tree that blossomed from the Huntress's corpse. It grew over her true fane and Desecrated it, hidden beneath the soil, and finalized the Desecration Of The Mountain Fane.
Though her power had been taken by Strahd, the Lady was still an unkillable archfey, tied to the land itself. Now out of contact with her sisters, she created an avatar to walk the lands above, living a small life absent of her former power. She became "Szabina Pokolytsch", a lone warrior who lived in Szabina's Cabin. She was nestled as far from Castle Ravenloft as possible, ensuring she stayed away from the Count's business.
Gruff and not especially verbose, she hunted around Luna Lake and Tsolenka Pass. Appearances from her were legend among the forest-folk of Yester Hill: she was famous for walking barefooted even across snowy mountain crags, and many thought she was able to control the Roc who lived on the mountain. These rumors generally kept her protected, as even minions bearing the Mark of Strahd did not venture close to her cabin.
