In the Murkmire Malevolence, however, Clarc's life trajectory forever change. He had several encounters with the cleric Matthew, who espoused to him the divine, but the Birdfolk was hauled away, presumed to be high on hallucinogenic mushrooms. Clarc did not know what to make of it at the time, but the night dissolved into chaos after the appearance of Caelas Helefir and Ulre Helefir, and a subsequent heist attempt threw everything into further disarray.

While guarding the stone, he was charmed by a Spell from Rasmus O'Dranith to help the thieves in their heist of the Murkmire Stone. This caused fellow guard Grendor Battleaxe to attempt to attack the boy, and Clarc killed the Dwarf in response before going catatonic. Ellenor Breatham gave him genuine mushrooms, and Clarc saw god while having a nervous breakdown.

He ended up becoming a Cleric devoted entirely to Umera, or as Matthew had called her, "Torm", and in doing so showed surprisingly adept divine ability.
