In Curse Of Strahd, they still waited for contact from their master, but were interrupted by The Pack. Xana escaped into the Vallaki Town Square, causing pandemonium and killing civilians before being hammered down by Jarmo Maulgrave. The Goliath split her skull onto the cobblestones, and her body was later burned by townsfolk.
A wily Gnome raised on a cliffside cave of Stone Tooth, Xana's family were skilled illusionists that spent most of their days fretting and hiding from Orc and Ogre raiders in the Forest of Stone Tooth. She grew skilled in the illusion and enchantment Schools of Magic, and after finding that she had the power to charm her way out of hostile situations, sought for work where she could use these skills. Eventually, she made her living as an adventurer for hire, and grew a reputation as a budding Wizard. Xana took a job through the Roc's Nest looking for information of a secret order in the Sea of Clouds. There, her party of six adventurers, including Brokk M'odag, were transported through spectral fog to the valley of Barovia.
A skilled but relatively abrasive group, they ended up making enemies of the Burgomaster of Vallaki, Vargas Vallakovich, when ridiculing Vallaki's constant mandatory parades. Xana believed she could smooth things over through charming magic, but found her spells did not work against Vargas' henchman Izek Strazni. Her party were kicked out of the village and banished from the only real town in the valley. Stripped of their armor and weapons, they eventually fell prey to creatures bearing the Mark of Strahd; her Spellbook and components ended up in the hands of Viktor Vallakovich.
They all ended up as consorts of Strahd von Zarovich, and were turned into Vampire Spawn; five years later, Xana rejoined her group in undeath. The six vampiric servants were given a plan to deconsecrate Saint Andral's Church by removing the namesake paladin's bones from the ground. She hid with her five former party members above the Coffin Maker's Shop, forcing Henrik van der Voort to obtain the bones of Lugdana Andral.
