In Break-In At Bleak End, a group of thieves broke into the prison posing as new staff, sneaking in without the knowledge of Ramos, Placidia, or Tiny Tulvrak. After almost getting caught, one had managed to frame Prisoner 76; unable to figure out how the prisoner escaped, Placidia killed the Dark Elf, thinking she was playing with them; Ramos recorded the death as "accidental" in the Bleak End Records of Imprisonment. In truth, this was just an element of the thieves' plan.
They had replaced and posed as incoming staff by kidnapping them, as guards Persimmon Copperpot and Yula Stormwhistle as well as cooks Mica Langelo and Kennekelle Palmer. They had broke in, changed the prison's recipes, isolated Prisoner 13, and stole Ramos' Wand of Binding as well as the gold he paid merchants to deliver cargo. Their identities were unknown, barely escaping via rowboat under a hail of arrows before being rescued by an unidentified ship.
After the fiasco, Ramos introduced further security measures. Full background checks were implemented for all incoming staff, and a magical ID card system was implemented to prevent magical disguises.
