Born in Vallaki to a wolf-hunting family, Danika was left alone often at a young age while her parents hunted. She learned at a young age that being sociable greatly improved her chances of survival, and was consistently popular with her peers. She grew especially close to Muriel Vinshaw, who was picked on for having Vistani blood, and the two grew up fighting her bullies. Having inherited skills in swordplay and crossbow from her parents, she taught them to Muriel, who became her rock after Danika's parents were killed by Dire Wolves on a standard hunt.

She eventually fell in love with Urwin Martikov, the new owner of the Blue Water Inn. The two quickly married, and she was inducted into the Keepers of the Feather along with Muriel, who had been spying on them and learned their secrets. Wedding into the Martikov family, she became a Wereraven by choice, easily fending off the Lycanthropy coursing through her bloodstream within a matter of days. She helped Urwin establish both the Keepers and the Inn as legitimate forces in Vallaki, and eventually sired two sons with him, Bray and Brom, though was not close with the other Martikovs at the Wizard of Wines.

While her husband focused mostly on the operations of the Keepers as well as the inn's finances, Danika became the face of the tavern. Her social skills, intelligence, and cheery demeanor were instrumental in both keeping the Inn profitable, as well as in collecting information from her patrons. Resultingly, she was a staple of the establishment's front face, leaving her husband to cook and manage its operations. Danika was unflappable in keeping the secrets of the Keepers from strangers, and when there were disturbances, she was quick to shut them down.
