Jolorlun Brinebelly

Captain

Jolorlun Brinebelly was a Dwarf merchant born in Blackvein Quarry, who's clan regularly took him in and out of Brazenthrone. He was widely known for his affable manner and steady optimism, though his stubbornness matched that of any of his kin. For decades, he traveled established routes from the Snoutridge to coastal towns, carrying precious metals and cut gems drawn from the deep mines of his hometown. Through long years of trade he built a reputation for fairness and reliability, and accumulated considerable wealth.

Unlike most dwarves, Jolorlun developed a fondness for the Shifting Blue. Repeated journeys to port cities left him captivated by the ocean’s breadth and motion, and he came to dream of sailing the Blue himself rather than merely skirting its edge. After nearly a century of commerce, he left Brazenthrone behind and settled in the great port city of Cliffsunder, where he purchased an aging vessel and oversaw its refurbishment. He renamed the ship the Jolly Dodger and adopted the moniker “Captain Jolly,” a title he carried with sincere pride.

With a hired crew of twenty, Captain Jolly took on transport and merchant contracts, quickly learning that the outer reaches of the Shifting Blue were more perilous than he had hoped. He instead based his operations out of the Grandport, where he became a familiar figure along the docks, personally canvassing for passengers and cargo. His routes carried him reliably to far-off destinations such as Fort Verdane, Igneos Isle, and Scil-Mirozhae, and while he never became a great explorer, he was considered a dependable sea captain, one who traded stone halls for open water without regret.

Having fitted the ship with golden railings, white lateen sails, and a stone head of an Angel as a superstition against danger, however, Captain Jolly eventually ran out of funds. He was forced to transport cargo for the dangerous Glitterati, and nearly wound himself in hot water with Don Coriander Thorn after returning late while taking the long way around the Siren's Isles. Snapdragon Poplarchop advocated for the dwarf, in an act that would end up saving his life; Jolorlun promised the Fairy a large favor in return, set to be cashed at a later date.
