Snapdragon Poplarchop

Snapdragon Poplarchop was a Giantborn Fairy, nearly a foot tall even before magic lent him greater size. He was born in the Faeriefort, where his unusual stature set him apart from an early age and made him useful in matters of size. Unlike many of his kin, he lacked a taste for tricks or cruelty. He was quiet, earnest, and deeply uncomfortable with conflict, but his ability to grow larger through his Otherborn magic ensured he was noticed and remembered. His size and natural loyalty forged him into a devoted Paladin amongst a people who often could not produce such warriors.

When Coriander Thorn broke from the elders and departed the Faeriefort, Snapdragon followed, and helped the new Don build the Pixis Palace. He believed Coriander’s talk of self-determination and protection for their people, and he hoped that leaving would spare him the whispers and expectations that followed him at home. In Cliffsunder, his combination of subtlety and strength quickly made him valuable, and he became the physical enforcer of Coriander’s growing operation.

Among the Glitterati, he was known as the one who broke doors, carried threats through sheer presence, and survived fights that should have killed a fairy outright. Despite this reputation, Snapdragon did not enjoy violence and rarely acted with malice of his own. He carried out orders because he did not know how to refuse them, and because he feared disappointing Coriander, who would beat him if he refused to commit acts of evil.

When he could, Snapdragon would advocate for good-hearted people who were set to suffer the Don's wrath, often by taking the punishment himself or collecting favors from the aggrieved party. One such instance occurred when Jolorlun Brinebelly was late in delivering cargo from around the Siren's Isles, forced into avoiding stormy weather, and the fairy advocated strongly to allow Captain Jolly to keep operating.

This good nature separated him from some of the more brutal within the Glitterati, but did make for a close friendship with Sassafras Flashlashes, Merben Ordri Fizzlehide Pennyluck, and other gang members who shared a sunnier disposition.

In Break-In At Bleak End, Merben had convinced Don Coriander to lend him men and funds to rob the Alabaster Palace prior to a massive ball. The operation went horribly, resulting in a gang member's death; in response, the fairy had Merben beaten and tied up in a demiplane of fairy magic. He forced Snapdragon to apply most of the damage, waiting in the demiplane until Nessa Nina Quickpick Rumbauld Pennyluck arrived with three former members of the Whistledrop Crew to beg for Merben's life.

After negotiating, Coriander sent Nessa Nina, Mercy, Ellenor Breatham, and Punmiri Tel-Phaeun on a mission to Farrozandmar. In exchange for the key, he would let Merben live and give them a small cut of the treasure behind the Undermire Dwarf-Door. Intuiting that Snapdragon was sympathetic, Ellenor Breatham messaged him using a Telepathy Spell; Snapdragon admitted that he thought the Don was going too far. He directed the group to call in his personal favor at the Jolly Dodger, allowing them to get a cut-rate price on the ship's services.

After the Crew returned from Bleak End with information about the Dwarf-Door Tattoo Key, Snapdragon joined Coriander's expedition into the Murkmire and the Undermire. Along the journey he revealed himself to be a capable paladin, repeatedly placing himself in danger to protect his companions. He fought beside the Crew against hostile Lizardfolk in the marshes, rescued allies from overwhelming threats, and served as one of the expedition's most dependable warriors as they entered Sprite's Hollow.

When the Glitterati reached the Undermire Dwarf-Door, Snapdragon stood alongside Coriander as the hidden vault was opened. The Fold's ambush quickly turned into a massacre, and he fought on the front lines against Vex and the cult's defenders. After Coriander was gravely wounded, Snapdragon never wavered in his efforts to defend both the Don and the retreating fairies, but was put to sleep by Wild Magic cast from a symbol of Virathul. During the collapse that followed, Ellenor managed to drag the unconscious paladin to safety. He later awoke beside her in an unknown swampy location after they escaped through a portal used by Volition, separated from the rest of the surviving expedition.
