Auberon

Auberon was born in the city of Oldoan to Human parents, an Angelborn marked from birth as someone set apart. His community treated him as divinely favored, and as he grew, his natural aptitude only reinforced those beliefs. He learned quickly, excelled across disciplines, and carried himself with a presence that drew attention from many in the city. These expectations accumulated over time, and Auberon struggled under their weight. Rather than meet them, he left Oldoan and drifted across Commona, taking no lasting role or purpose. Years passed into decades; as they did, his memories began to slip, and Auberon eventually even forgot his own last name. When he returned a century later, the people who had once known him were gone, and whatever place he had once held no longer remained.

During this period, he encountered Vermhaxaandes Sharhydrox, who recognized both his latent ability and his lack of direction. "Hydrox" exposed Auberon to the Mirror of Dragonmorph, and its effect was immediate; the angelborn was the first person to respond to the Mirror's innate magic. Auberon’s body altered, forming a draconic right claw and scattered gold scales, and he began to manifest minor abilities as a Sorcerer. Hydrox gifted him a Riding Horse from his personal stock, and Auberon formed a close personal connection with Ginger. However, when the gold Dragonborn attempted to train him through study, he found that Auberon simply did not respond to structured learning. His instincts favored action over theory, and he showed little patience for texts or formal instruction.

Hydrox adapted his approach and placed Auberon in charge of three younger Adventurerthat he had trained for years: Lola Windwisper, Vesper, and Valori. He established them in the abandoned city of Umli, within the old Umlian Church, where they could live and train. This group came to be known as the Vermin. Theoretically, Auberon led them in the field, though in practicality he relied on Vesper's tracking, Valori's fighting ability, and Lola's Druidic magic as much as they did his sorcerous power. Developing his abilities through experience rather than study, Auberon did grow more powerful as Hydrox guided their broader direction from afar.

In the adventures that followed, Auberon would acquire wealth and interesting items such as a Pipe of Smoke Monsters and Eyes of Minute Seeing, which he comically wore like an old man despite appearing in his prime due to his Angelborn heritage. Outside of training and work, Auberon spent long periods in quiet reflection, attempting to hold onto memories that slipped from him with increasing frequency. His past remained fragmented, and despite his long life, much of it felt distant and indistinct, leaving him with a sense of having lived far more than he could clearly recall.
