Welcome to the Vigilants. You are one of the thousands of people living in the imperial capital of Sentra, the jewel of the Empire

For some of you, this is home—a comfortable and familiar place you've known your entire life.  For others, the city may only be a brief stop, perhaps one of many in your travels.  But regardless of how you came here, you share the same streets.

Depending on who you are—and where you live—Sentra can be a beautiful city of wonder and splendor. Yet that perfect city is only what many people see on the surface.  There are those that understand there is more to the city, that there are flaws in it that run deeper than what most will see.  There are those that know what lies beneath.

The Story

The Bladeservants are an order of skilled warriors that specialize in combat with blades. Although many uses swords, other edged weapons are also specialized in. Most adherents are elves.

The Keepers are priests and priestess of Lotrad, goddess of death.  They wage a constant struggle to educate people about the goddess, proclaiming that she is a friend to mortals. She brings cessation of pain and suffering, grants peace to those ravaged by age, and makes room for the birth of new souls. Lotrad is an extension of nature, a part of the cycle of life and death. In this way, she is no more evil than a bolt of lightning or rainstorm. She claims the souls of the dead because that is her role, not because it brings her any pleasure or glee.

Not surprisingly, even the clerics of Lotrad are shrouded in folktales and rumor. Many people look upon these priests as bad luck. At the same time, when a friend or family member passes away, people call upon these priests without hesitation. When it comes to the realm of the dead, there is no one else to call upon.

The majority of Lotrad's clerics remain part of a specific congregation and temple, usually as part of a community. From the moment the cleric recites his vows to the moment of his death, he cares for the spiritual well-being and death needs of his congregation. He oversees funerals, assists with proper burial traditions (which vary depending on the race and culture in question, such as burial or cremation), and comforts the living. The Keepers also work to educate people about the meaning of death and its role in the mortal existence. They teach that death is a natural event, not something to be feared. They also teach about death's inevitability, and the importance of preparing for your demise properly.

House Nimbria is officially non-existent, as in it has never existed. Records have been expunged of any mention of House Nimbria.

Although not common knowledge, elves are more aware of the House's history. They were considered to be elven sympathizers, working against the interests of the Empire and the rulers of House Ferrum.

There is an unmarked mausoleum in Rattlestone that belongs to House Nimbria, with three members buried within.

The City

Read about life in the city and the neighborhoods and people that live in them:  City Life

Random Spotlights

Graywall is a cozy, middle-class neighborhood located on the edge of the city. It is situated between the more affluent areas of Griffin Gardens and Highwater. The neighborhood is mostly residential with a mix of local businesses and family homes. The neighborhood takes its name from the old city wall that used to mark the edge of the city many years ago. Although the wall has been partially removed, much of it still remains and runs through the center of the neighborhood, providing a unique and historic touch.

Hakur is a noted orcish historian. He is one of the few non-human members of the Imperial Historian's Society (although rumor has it he was also kicked out of the organization twice). He was traveling for research on his latest work, "The End of the Age of Elves," when he disappeared. The Imperial Watch believe he was waylaid by bandits on his way back to Sentra. His research work may have information on the Singers.

His assistant, Nissra Hadenog, is missing.

Brimtarans worship Brimtar, god of earth and metalworking. His worship is popular amongst the dwarves, but he is also worshipped by smiths and stonecrafters. When a weapon miraculously survives a blow, or a suit of armor somehow saves its wearers life against a mortal blow, it is viewed as a sign of Brimtar’s blessing. When a forge fire glows a certain shade of green, it is said to have attracted Brimtar’s attention. When Brimtar reveals his displeasure, it often involves tools, weapons, or objects cracking, breaking, or shattering.

When possible, services dedicated to Brimtar take place in a proper temple, preferably one constructed of sturdy stone. Most Brimtaran temples are large, imposing, and leave viewers with a sense of awe. His temples often feature impressive and elaborate stonework, usually decorated with intricate metalworking and stonecarving.

The Brimtaran holy book is called The Hammer and the Forge. This large and weighty tome is an unusual holy work in that includes not just prayers and liturgy devoted to Brimtar, but also many life lessons related to artisanship and craftsmanship.
