Luana Yinshera - Characters

Luana Yinshera was born and raised in the military city of Fort Verdane. From an early age, she idolized her older brother Nocter Yinshera, a battle Wizard known for his fearlessness and repeated conscriptions into campaigns seeking to unravel the mysteries of the Sea of Trees. She learned minor Spellcraft under his guidance, practicing the basics of arcane magic and developing a careful, studious approach to preparing her Spellbook. Her training also incorporated the lessons of discipline that permeated Verdane’s military culture, and prepared her to join the Common League army.

During a raid into the Howling Hollowland, Nocter was bitten by a strange creature. Unaware that he had contracted Lycanthropy, he returned home. On the following full moon, he lost control and transformed into a Weretiger, killing their parents and infecting Luana with the same Curse. Nocter regained consciousness long enough to revive his sister with a Potion of Healing, but their parents were already too far gone. Knowing that the Verdane military would pursue them and fearing what he might become if left unchecked, he told her to flee as far from Fort Verdane as possible. Nocter then disappeared into the Sea of Trees, leaving Luana stunned, grief-stricken, and burdened with a new, unfamiliar power.

Luana traveled across the Sea of the Maw, up the Longsnout Coast, and eventually reached Wistimere. Directionless, alone, and somewhat bored, she entered town in the daytime and found the Marvelous Menagerie, where a large Tiger being delivered to the town sparked a strange kinship. Attempting to free the animal, she was caught by the proprietor, Perceval LaPall, who restrained her with a Tanglefoot Bag. Suddenly trapped, she shifted into her weretiger form to escape, and fled into the Woods of Elenmyr. LaPall became obsessed with the Lycanthrope, sending hunters into the woods and later leaving promises of reward and a comfortable life for her if she returned.

For over a year, Luana survived in the woods, relying more on her instincts than any formal training. The rotting of the woods became apparent as trapped Beasts infected with Zombie Rot appeared throughout the forest. She observed that even those who tried to help, such as Elf Rangers, Firbolgs, and Gnomes, were at risk of infection, as the seemingly-innocent creatures would bite their rescuers. Gradually, Luana took on the role of protector the southern woods. During this period, she saved Qudoris Vexalim from a Zombie elf and formed a friendship, connecting their stories through the bonds they shared with their siblings.

In Mystery Of Wistimere, Luana observed the Vermin setting up camp off the roadside, but was surprised when Lola Windwisper keenly noticed her beyond her campfire's light, and fled. She returned to the campsite, unknowingly leaving tracks that the Adventurers would later follow. She was being pursued by the paladin Valant Vainglory, but his feckless attempts to find her did not trouble the weretiger.

When Luana finally encountered Qudoris again, she found her by a forest pond; the ranger was chained to a shrine of Elteos, and had transformed into a zombie. Approaching the scene, she was attacked by a Water Weird emerging from the shrine’s pond and forced to flee. Not long after, she was pursued again by the Vermin, as their tracker Vesper easily followed her trail. Luana turned to run, again, but was contacted through a spell of Telepathy by Auberon, who said they were friends of Qudoris' sister Quira Vexalim.

She would later join this adventuring group, uncovering the conspiracy of Mayor Perceval LaPall to transmute objects into gold, regardless of the cost to the forest or its people. During their final confrontation with LaPall, he revealed that he had synthesized a Waxing Moonstone in preparation for an eventual weretiger encountered. Luana lost control and bit Valori, who was able to fight her off with Valant's silvered sword but contracted her lycanthropy. As Nocter had with her, Luana revived Valori with a Potion of Healing, but immediately understood the significance of what she had done.

In a tense encounter, LaPall would die to Auberon's draconic flames and Valant to Vesper's bow, and proof of the conspiracy ended the threat of war in Wistimere. However, Luana felt extremely guilt about spreading her brother's curse, especially to a young woman of such similar stock. She promised to help Valori navigate her new life as a Lycanthrope, and the Vermin took her to the Umlian Church to meet Hydrox. She was inducted to the Vermin, and Luana had finally found a new family.
